How to study a course PDF without endlessly rereading it
A PDF may hold the whole course while leaving you with a false sense of mastery. Turn each chapter into questions you can answer without looking.
1. Prepare one readable chapter
Check that you can select text in the PDF. An image-only scan needs OCR first. Work on one chapter, remove irrelevant pages and identify definitions, mechanisms and examples. A shorter document makes extraction mistakes easier to spot.
2. Turn a summary into questions
Use the summary as a map, then verify important ideas against the document. Make each card specific: “What does the cell membrane do?” is more useful than a card called “membrane”. Attempt the answer before turning it over.
3. Revisit the difficult parts
Finish with a quiz without notes. For each error, return to the source passage and write down what confused you. Review those points first next time. The goal is to explain the course independently, not simply finish a large deck.
